German Research Foundation (DFG)
The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft) is the central, self-governing research organisation that promotes research at universities and other publicly financed research institutions in Germany.
The DFG serves all branches of science and the humanities by funding research projects and facilitating cooperation among researchers.
 

Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF)
By means of special funding programmes, the BMBF supports innovative projects and ideas in the research sector. The fields supported include basic scientific research, sustainable development, new technologies, information and communications technologies, new media in education; life sciences, work organisation; transport, space activities, building; structural research support in higher education as well as support for innovation and technology transfer. Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft
The main concern of the Stifterverband is the promotion of science and research. It gives funding to support research projects conducted in a great variety of areas. Among the recipients are institutions of higher education, research institutes, other scientific institutions and organizations as well as individuals such as young researchers and scientists and scholars.
 


Volkswagen Foundation
The Volkswagen Foundation is the largest private research-funding foundation in Germany. The Volkswagen Foundation provides financial support to academic institutions in Germany, as well as other countries, and funding is available for projects in all disciplines.
 

Alexander von Humboldt Foundation
The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is a non-profit foundation established by the Federal Republic of Germany for the promotion of international research cooperation. It enables highly qualified scholars not resident in Germany to spend extended periods of research in Germany and promotes the ensuing academic contacts.
