Enrolment on NC courses
Only persons who have been formally admitted can be enrolled on an NC
course. Applicants who have been admitted will be notified in writing
of the date of the enrolment ceremony.
Enrolment on non-NC courses
Enrolment without a formal application is possible for non-NC
courses and for more advanced semesters of NC courses (for which there
are no restrictions on admission).
Documents to be presented:
Every prospective student is required to complete an (on-line enrolment
form) issued by the Studierendenverwaltung/Clearing
, which will be processed by the Studierendenverwaltung/
Immatrikulationsbüro. In addition, the following documents are to
be presented:
- the Secondary School Leaving Certificate in the original (to be returned) and a copy thereof (witnessed or unwitnessed);
- evidence of health insurance with a registered social insurance company, or legal exemption from compulsory health insurance.
- evidence of payment of social contributions to the Studentenwerk (€
30.68) and the Studentenschaft (€ 6.00); payment of the enrolment fee
(€ 51.13) and for the so-called Semester Ticket for free public
transport in Berlin (€ 118.85), adding up to a total amount of €
206.66, to be paid to Berliner Bank AG, Code Number: 1002000, Account
No.: 4390992200
- (if applicable) a Certificate of University Studies (Exmatrikulationsbescheinigung) issued by the higher education institution attended before;
- evidence of the successful work in the previously attended course (provided that course and the course applied for are identical), if enrolment is for a higher semester of a course;
- evidence of eligibility for a higher semester of a course, issued by the Board of Examiners of the Faculty concerned, if the previous course was not identical with the one applied for.
Enrolment periods
- For the winter semester: 16 July to 15 September;
- For the summer semester: 16 January to 15 March.
These periods might be extended. For enrolment within the extended periods (Nachfristen) a fee of € 19.94 will be charged. Details of the extended periods can be obtained from the current academic timetable of the University.
Multiple enrolment
Students enrolled at another higher education institution in Berlin and in possession of at least one subject-specific higher education qualification can be enrolled at Humboldt Universität for one subject of their subject combination. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the Studierenendenverwaltung/ Clearing. Responsibility for processing the forms lies with the Studierenendenverwaltung/Immatrikulationsbüro.
Documents to be presented:
- evidence of the applicant's higher education enrolment (student card and certificate of enrolment) for the relevant semester;
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate in the original (to be returned) and copy thereof (witnessed or unwitnessed);
- Letter of Acceptance (Zulassungsbescheid) for enrolment on NC courses.
Registration for part(s) of a course (as "Nebenhörer/in")
Students enrolled at another higher education institution in Berlin wishing to attend certain lectures and/or seminars at Humboldt University as part of their course can register as "Nebenhörer/in", provided they have been granted permission in writing of the responsible academic staff members at Humboldt. The registration will not give them the status of "Members" of Humboldt Universität. Registration forms can be obtained from the Studierenendenverwaltung/Clearing. Responsibility for processing the forms lies with Studierenendenverwaltung/Immatrikulationsbüro.
Registration as guest student or auditor ("Gasthörer/in")
Persons wishing to register as Gasthörer/in (guest student or auditor status) do not need to present a higher education qualification. They will not be given a student card and do not have the status of "Members" of Humboldt Universität. Registration for lectures and/or seminars will be granted on a semester basis. It is subject to prior approval by the Humboldt staff member(s) concerned and will involve tuition fees. Registration forms can be obtained from the Studierenendenverwaltung/Clearing. Responsibility for processing the forms lies with Studierenendenverwaltung/Immatrikulationsbüro.
Documents to be presented:
- a completed application form (Teilnahme an Lehrveranstaltungen als Gasthörer/in), including permission by the academic staff member(s) in charge of the lecture(s) or seminar(s);
- proof of payment of the tuition fees.
Entrance with subject-specific qualifications (under § 11 of the Berlin Higher Education Act)
Entrance requirements:
- Leaving Certificate of Realschule or equivalent qualification;
- completed and certified occupational training relevant to the course of study;
- at least four years of work experience following the training period, or an advanced occupational qualification as "Meister(in)" (master or foreman) in a subject area related to the course applied for, or a state-approved technician or management expert qualification, or any comparable advanced occupational status.
Application forms are available on-line or from the Studierendenverwaltung/Clearing.
They are to be submitted to the Studierendenverwaltung/Sachgebiet
Zulassungen (NC courses) or to the Studierendenverwaltung/Immatrikulationsbüro
(non-NC courses). A detailed statement concerning the motivation and
the completed "Erhebungsbogen" are to be attached.
Closing times for the submission of applications based on a
subject-specific qualification (under § 11 of the Berlin Higher
Education Act) are:
- 1 June to 15 July for the winter semester,
- 1 December to 15 January for the summer semester.
Applications for courses carrying nation-wide restrictions on admission will not be accepted.
