Merck 350 Open Innovation - Anniversary Grants and Challenges

"Always Curious – Imagine the Next 350 Years" | DEADLINE für alle Einreichungen ist der 15. August 2018!

Zum 350jährigen Bestehen hat die Merck-Gruppe Förderungen und Challenges ausgeschrieben. Nachfolgend eine Auswahl:

Anniversary Grants - Get funding to work on challenging research topics at the occasion of our 350th anniversary!

Merck intends to provide several research grants of up to EUR 350,000 per year for 3 years in various research areas with the option of extension or expansion.

All selected applicants will be invited to a three day workshop after signature of a confidential disclosure and workshop participation agreement to discuss and optimize a more detailed confidential research proposal further together with Merck scientists. At the end of the workshop participants will present their optimized research proposal and the winning applicants will be selected by Merck. Merck will then enter into bilateral collaboration agreements with the winning recipients to enable pay-out of the research grant and project start in 2019.

Anniversary Research Challenges - Win rewards and recognition by solving the 350th anniversary challenges!
  • Innovative Analytics Technologies
Merck will fund innovative projects in applied biophysical & analytical research.
Challenge 1: Analytical technologies for antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates, quantitative microbiomics, as well as technologies to determine drug target engagement, or the level of protein or nucleic acid or metabolic biomarkers.
Challenge 2: Analytical technologies for display materials or semiconductors (Liquid Crystals, OLED Materials, Quantum Materials, Reactive Mesogens, Photoresist Materials). E.g. Spectroscopic Methods, MS Hyphenation, Capillary Chromatography and Comprehensive Separation Technologies; Surface analytics for displays (non- or destructive), Sample preparation techniques for ultra-sensitive investigations.
Challenge 3: Analytical technologies for the characterization of polymers, chemical imaging, bioanalytical methods or new methods in molecular biology. Technologies of interest for example are: field flow floractionation (FFF), dynamic light scattering (DLS), chemical imaging, new chromatographic techniques, spectroscopic and spectrometric methods, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), microwave analytics.
  • Diabetes Innovation Challenge
Merck will provide funding for the most innovative ideas with the goal of helping people at risk of type 2 diabetes.
If you have an innovation that is up to the challenge, send us a detailed description of your idea. Merck will (at its own discretion) award prizes of EUR 30,000, EUR 10,000, and EUR 5,000 to the three most innovative projects.
  • Compound Synthesis
You are invited to provide an original synthesis protocol for a small molecule.  Up to 12 candidates will be given the structure of a small molecule and have 96 hours to submit their proposed synthesis route. Submitted proposals will be tested in a wet lab and the best synthesis protocol will win a prize of EUR 10,000.
  • Protein Production Cell Line Challenge
You are invited to optimize antibody production in CHO cells from a given expression construct. Up to 12 candidates will be provided with the antibody expression construct and CHO cells. These candidates will then have 1 year to generate and submit a high expression CHO cell line. Submitted cell lines will be tested in a wet lab and the candidate providing the clone with the highest antibody yield will win a prize of EUR 20,000.
  • Next Game Changing Technology
Merck is curious about technologies that can be game-changing in R&D, production, logistics and product development in our three sectors. Can therapies, specialty chemicals, and life science research enablers be developed differently from as done today. Merck on its own discretion will award prizes of EUR 10,000, EUR 5,000, and EUR 3,000 to the most convincing proposals.

Bitte beachten Sie: die Einreichungen werden nicht vertraulich behandelt, wären also bei geplanten Patenten auf jeden Fall Neuheitsschädlich!
