Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) - The course is designed for students who wish to enter the teaching profession, but can also be taken without the teacher training option. Students are not initially required to be a member of a church, the subject is open to everyone. However, if you wish to enter the teaching profession you should be aware that Protestant religious education teachers are required to belong to a church. - See the Teacher training programme and Bachelor’s and master’s courses at HU FAQ as well as www.religion-studieren.de.

Combinations
- Core subject Protestant Theology, with a second subject to be selected (for organisational reasons, not recommended with the second subjects of Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics).
- Secondary subject Protestant Theology with a bachelor’s core subject (not available with the core subjects Biology and Physics)
Language skills
Graecum, Hebraicum, Latinum - Core subject students choose two, Second subject students choose one of them.
Language skills may be acquired as part of a preparatory course.

Teacher training/Career-related Additional Qualifications
- If you wish to enter the teaching profession, you must complete the Protestant Theology teacher training module: Basic module Religious Education 7 CP.
- If you do not wish to enter the teaching profession and would like to acquire the bachelor’s Career-related Additional Qualification in Protestant Theology, you must complete the Religious Cultures module (30 CP), a practical module: Religious Cultures internship period or Religious Studies internship, 10 CP each, and/or modules from the field of Religious Cultures: Practical Theology, Religious Studies, Gender Studies, Systematic Theology/Philosophy or Religion, Historical Theology, Biblical Studies, 10 CP each.

If you wish to enter the teaching profession, you must apply for the Master of Education in your two subjects. If you do not wish to enter the teaching profession, the faculty can offer you the Religion and Culture master’s course. Which skills and prerequisites do you need for this course?
- You should enjoy the careful, detailed handling of texts and methodologically impartial academic historical work.
- Love the languages and imaginative worlds of foreign, sometimes very old texts.
- Be open to being surprised by traditions generally considered to have been outlived, and to examine the life options and self-conceptions offered by these traditions.
- The readiness to critically reflect on personal religious affiliations and bring them to open-ended dialogue with alternative life orientations.
