SUMMARY:PARATAXE presentation – Berlin spricht!
DESCRIPTION:Berlin spricht! collaborates with Stadtsprachen – Magazin der
  internationalen Literaturen Berlins. In a joint PARATAXE event, we ask wh
 at languages Berlin writes in. PARATAXE is an event series where Berlin au
 thors who write in languages other than German will be introduced and publ
 ished in citywide conversations, readings and translations. What languages
  does Berlin write in? Together with Stadtsprachen – Magazin der interna
 tionalen Literaturen Berlins and two literary guests, we explore the curre
 nt city map of linguistic diversity in Berlin. The occasion is Internation
 al Mother Language Day, a commemorative day proclaimed by UNESCO to “pro
 mote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism”, which has b
 een celebrated annually on February 21 since 2000.A special literary eveni
 ng in German – with sections in Galician, English and Nepali (and transl
 ations).Elisabeth Verhoeven will present the Berlin spricht! language proj
 ect.Martin Jankowski will talk to Mara Mahía (author, Spain/Berlin) about
  Galician and Ioanna Gatzigianni will read her German translation of a pro
 se text by Mara Mahía.Nishan Dhakal (author, Nepal/Berlin) will talk abou
 t Nepali, and Nico Lehmann reads the German translation by Ritu Kuluju of 
 a short story by Nishan Dhakal.For details about the participants, see the
