Anti-Discrimination and Diversity

The Anti-Discrimination & Diversity Office serves as the central coordination and contact point for all matters and enquiries relating to these subjects.

Our mission

Our core tasks include developing measures and initiatives to raise awareness of and prevent discrimination, fostering collaboration between university stakeholders and initiatives in this field, the participatory development of a strategy for anti-discrimination and diversity at Humboldt University, and the documentation of cases of discrimination.

The Anti-Discrimination & Diversity team also acts as a complaints' office for cases of discrimination under the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) and the State Anti-Discrimination Act (LADG).

University of Diversity

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin regards the diversity of its members as an asset and aims to create a research, study and working environment that fosters the creative potential of every individual.

The University’s aim is to promote diversity, value differences and counteract (structural) discrimination. This includes breaking down existing inequalities, barriers and disadvantages. Central to this is the fight against and prevention of discrimination and violence.

Strategy and Concepts

We are committed to ensuring that anti-discrimination and diversity are taken into account and integrated into all processes and structures at HU. For us, this goes hand in hand with both preventing and countering discrimination and violence at HU.

In our work, we take an intersectional approach. Accordingly, we work closely with the other thematic areas within the Centre for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging and with other stakeholders at HU and beyond.

HU has set itself the goal of consistently implementing diversity mainstreaming into the university’s structure as part of organisational development and of promoting a culture that values diversity and mutual respect. It has made this public by signing the Diversity Charter.

Anti-discrimination and diversity are enshrined as ongoing tasks in the HU’s constitution. The Teaching Mission Statement also defines inclusion, diversity, equality and participation as cross-cutting tasks – they permeate all areas of teaching and study and are equally binding on all those involved.
