Family Support

The Family Support Office serves as the central coordination and contact point for all matters and enquiries relating to balancing work or study with family life and care-responsibilities.

Our understanding of family

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin defines family as any group in which long-term social responsibility for relatives is assumed. This means that all parent-child relationships – including, for example, single-parent families, blended families and rainbow families – as well as sibling relationships and married or cohabiting couples are included as care-giving communities.

Strategy and concepts

We are committed to ensuring that family equity is strategically integrated into all processes and structures at HU. For us, this goes hand in hand with raising awareness of the need to balance work, study and family life, and with countering discrimination.

In our work, we take an intersectional approach. Accordingly, we work closely with the other thematic areas within the Centre for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging and with other stakeholders at HU and beyond.

Do you need a consultation?

Our consultation and counselling services are available to all members of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin who have caregiving responsibilities. Also, if you are a manager or team leader, dealing with a related issue within your team, you are also welcome to contact us.
