Strategy
We are committed to ensuring that equality, in the sense of gender mainstreaming, is taken into account and integrated into all processes and structures at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. For us, this goes hand in hand with raising awareness of gender-based discrimination and ensuring that there is no place for sexual harassment, discrimination or violence at HU. In doing so, we work closely with the Women’s Representatives and Equal Opportunity Officers at both central and departmental levels.
The strategic framework for this is provided by the Caroline von Humboldt+ Programme (CvH+), HU’s overarching equality strategy. It was developed in 2009 and comprehensively expanded in 2017 – with a particular focus on the intersectional perspective. It is named after Caroline von Humboldt: letter writer, salon hostess, patron of the arts and wife of Wilhelm von Humboldt. This umbrella programme brings together all the University’s gender equality measures, links them together, and ensures they are regularly evaluated and further developed.
Gender Equality Policy for Parity
HU’s current equality policy was adopted by the University Management in 2023. Based on the CvH+ programme, it sets out equality policy objectives up to 2030 and outlines specific measures for individual areas of action.
