In a fast-paced and ever-changing world of work, we are working with great dedication to shape a modern and forward-looking working culture at our university. A healthy and supportive working environment that promotes collaboration, commitment, creativity and personal responsibility is very important to us. In this context, the Health Management is a key component of New Work at our institution. Only with a healthy and motivated workforce can we successfully meet the challenges of the modern academic world of work.
Our key topics
The University's Health Management aims to improve the health, well-being and performance of students and staff in the long term. Our focus is on mental health, physical activity, stress management, nutrition, health-oriented leadership, active teaching, and working and learning environments that promote health.
Strategic partnership
HU aims to consistently embed health as a cross-cutting priority within the university’s structures, processes and culture. As one of the few universities in Germany, it is establishing a holistic, integrated University Health Management system to this end, which links existing services and expands them in line with needs. The health management follows four guiding principles: health issues are made visible across all areas of the university transparently. Staff and students alike benefit from systematic and comprehensive support services. These are developed in line with needs and tailored to specific target groups on the basis of regular needs analyses and surveys. Finally, all target groups are involved in a participatory manner in analysis and decision-making processes – the measures are continuously evaluated and adapted.
FISU Healthy Campus Label: Humboldt-Universität awarded gold
The FISU Healthy Campus Label is an internationally recognised programme designed to specifically promote the well-being of students and university staff. It is based on international standards such as the WHO’s ‘Health Promoting Universities’ project and the federal framework recommendations of the National Prevention Conference. The award is graded from ‘Certified’ to ‘Platinum’ – HU has achieved the Gold level.
The HU’s award of the FISU Healthy Campus Label in Gold demonstrates the effectiveness of the University's health management: the certificate is awarded for proven commitment in the areas of physical fitness, mental health, nutrition, social responsibility and sustainability – and thus reflects the breadth of its approach. The Health Management initiated and carried out the certification process in collaboration with University Sports, supported by numerous departments at HU.
Survey: How are things at HU? Staff and student survey
What motivates you in your everyday university life? What causes you stress – and what gives you strength? To find this out, we regularly survey students and staff at HU. These scientifically sound findings form the basis for the strategic development of the University Health Management: working together with internal and external partners, we use them to develop tailored measures to promote the health of all members of the Humboldt community. Health promotion at HU is not a top-down project – it thrives on your participation.
Networking & Partnerships
Health promotion works best when coordinated. The Health Management therefore brings together existing services at HU – and expands them where there is a need. In doing so, we work closely with HU’s Central University Sports Service. This is also made possible by the support of our health insurance partners: Techniker Krankenkasse and AOK Nordost support our work – financially, professionally and each with their own specific focus. We are also funded by the Berlin Equal Opportunities Programme (BCP).
Furthermore, we are part of the “Berlin-Brandenburg Healthy Universities Network”. It brings together committed stakeholders who wish to advance health-related projects at universities. The network’s aim is to strengthen the focus on health sustainably at the participating universities and to promote a healthy study and working environment for students and staff.
