Exercise
Step outside for a moment, stretch briefly, take a deep breath – sometimes it doesn’t take much to relieve stress. Regular breaks for physical activity are good for the body: they relieve tension in the shoulder girdle, support your natural rhythms, and supply both your muscles and brain with fresh oxygen. The result: greater well-being – and more energy to keep studying. HU offers a wide range of exercise options to help you achieve this.
On the University sports website, you’ll find not only a great sports programme but also tips and tricks for an active and healthy daily routine at home or with your family.
Tips from the university sports department
Studying online
These days, studying often takes place in just one place: in front of a screen. Digitalisation is changing the way we learn – and this has implications for our health. This makes it all the more important to have resources that support you through your daily digital university life and specifically help to improve your health.
Nutrition
Diet has a direct impact on concentration and performance – both a full stomach and hunger can make it harder to study. The good news is that you don’t need to go to great lengths to find superfoods. Regular, fresh and varied meals are enough to keep your brain well nourished during your daily studies.
Stay in touch
Studying also means meeting people, exchanging ideas and making new contacts. This social interaction often gets neglected in everyday university life. University sports, for example, run a sports partner exchange to help you make friends – outside of lectures and seminars.
Stress management & relaxation
Exams, deadlines and presentations are a regular part of student life – and it is almost impossible to avoid periods of stress. The key is to ensure they do not become a permanent state of affairs. The Psychological Student Counselling Service offers one-to-one sessions and group support for all undergraduates and PhD students at HU. The aim is to create a safe and supportive space where students can talk openly about pressures such as exam anxiety, stress, writing difficulties and so on.
In addition, the Humboldt Graduate School offers a conflict consultation service for doctoral candidates, and the HU provides a general conflict counselling service.
