How does this whole “compensation for disadvantages” thing actually work?

Students with health impairments and/or family obligations may apply for individualized accommodations under Section 109 of the HU Student Services Act (ZSP-HU). While the need is great, the process is often unclear and by no means always straightforward. To address this issue, a working group of the Senate Commissions on Family-Friendly Universities and Accessible Universities has developed a guide. This guide is intended to clarify the legal framework, institutional leeway, as well as the limits and possibilities for adapting to individual academic needs. It aims to standardize the implementation of accommodations without losing the necessary flexibility for individual cases.

The draft is currently undergoing a consultation process and has not yet been finalized. In this After-Lunch Talk, Dr. Dörte Esselborn and Katrin Rettel, heads of the Family Equity and Inclusion & Accessibility divisions at the Centre for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging, will present the draft and welcome feedback from practitioners during the subsequent discussion.
