IN’Com – Inspiration and exchange for greater inclusion in higher education Focus for 2026: Neurodiversity From April 2026, the ‘Studying with a Disability’ advisory service at the Centre for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging at Humboldt Universität Berlin will continue the IN’Com workshop series, focusing on the theme of inclusion and accessibility. This year’s focus is on neurodiversity. The series offers practical insights, expert input and a space for discussion: How can we ensure a sensitive and respectful approach? What are the dos and don’ts when interacting with others – particularly when engaging with people with neurodivergent profiles? Topics include neurodiversity, comorbidities, communication and compensating for disadvantages. Led by Katrin Rettel (Head of Inclusion & Accessibility Office , Study with a Disability Advisory Service) and moderated by Stefanie Trzecinski (KOPF, HAND + FUSS gGmbH, Berlin), the series is aimed at teaching staff and other members of staff at HU.

Description

What does accommodating disabilities mean in practice – and what really works? In the fourth workshop of the series “IN'Com – Awareness-raising workshops for an inclusive community”, we move away from theory and engage directly in dialogue: neurodivergent students and teaching staff discuss together which forms of accommodation actually help – and where well-intentioned measures fall flat.

What do neurodivergent students really need to be able to study on an equal footing? What is feasible from the teachers’ perspective – and where do they reach their limits? And how can support measures be designed that do not stigmatise, but empower? The open discussion session provides space for honest exchange, different perspectives and joint reflection.

Format:

Virtual via Zoom, featuring short keynote talks by experts followed by discussion.
