IN’Com – Inspiration and exchange for greater inclusion in higher education Focus for 2026: Neurodiversity From April 2026, the ‘Studying with a Disability’ advisory service at the Centre for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belpnging at Humboldt Universität Berlin will continue the IN’Com workshop series, focusing on the theme of inclusion and accessibility. This year’s focus is on neurodiversity. The series offers practical insights, expert input and a space for discussion: How can we ensure a sensitive and respectful approach? What are the dos and don’ts when interacting with others – particularly when engaging with people with neurodivergent profiles? Topics include neurodiversity, comorbidities, communication and compensating for disadvantages. Led by Katrin Rettel (Head of the Inclusion & Accessibility office, Studying with a Disability Advisory Service) and moderated by Stefanie Trzecinski (KOPF, HAND + FUSS gGmbH, Berlin), the series is aimed at teaching staff and other members of staff at HU.

The fifth and final workshop of 2026 in the series “IN'Com – Awareness-raising workshops for an inclusive society” will explore the advantages and disadvantages of on-campus study compared to distance learning.

In this workshop, Marvin Jochem will share a personal insight into his experiences. He is familiar with both forms of higher education and is therefore well placed to assess which structures, requirements and conditions are helpful for him as a person on the autism spectrum – and which can be more challenging.

What advantages does on-campus study offer? In what ways can a distance-learning university provide relief? What barriers arise in both formats? And which services or structures might perhaps learn from one another or be adapted?

Comparing on-campus and distance learning can provide exciting insights – for lecturers, counsellors and university staff. The aim is to reflect together on how higher education can be made more flexible, accessible and inclusive.

Format:

Virtual via Zoom, featuring short keynote talks by experts followed by a discussion.
