Project description
The project will reconstruct the communication on female education, as it happened between Germany, Great Britain, and Northern America as well as trans-nationally in the period between 1890 and 1945. The goal is to explain exchange processes by help of which the education systems for girls and women were developed in the countries of reference. Against the background of the respective national, cultural, and education policies there will be asking in what way international communication was organized among the women's movement, among professional associations, international institutions, or with single public figures, and in what way the interplay of transnational and national knowledge formation influenced theories and institutions of female education, which is always also general aducation, in each of the mentioned countries. Did this exchange trigger off reforms, were there adaptations, was there even the creation of trans-national cultural patterns or, if existing, were they increased?
