At a glance

Project duration
09/2006  – 08/2011

Project description

In spite of great importance of horses in our society, there are a lot of questions on its origin and domestication. With help of DNA analysis of wild horses from Holozene/ Pleistozene and recent domestic horses, new results should be found for the origin of the horse, time and place of its domestication as well as markers for segregation of wild and domestic horses. This project is carried out with close co-operation with archaeozoology and evolution biology (Prof. Benecke, Deutsches Archäologisches Institut; Prof. Hofreiter, MPI für Evolutionäre Anthropologie; Dr. Ludwig, Leibniz-Institut für Zoo- und Wildtierforschung).
