Project description
Correspondences between gauge field theories and string theories as well as problems of time development in string theory are two at present intensively studied subjects. There are several connections, both from the physics side as well as on the level of methods. Our project is devoted in particular to tests and applications of the AdS/CFT correspondence. The tests will mainly refer to situations where string theory beyond the supergravity approximation is involved. We will also study the degeneracy of the holographic mapping of AdS/CFT in the BMN limit. Time dependent background fields for strings are important both for cosmological applications as well as for several aspects of the string and brane dynamics. We want to contribute to the understanding of the relation of the RG flow to the time development. Furthermore investigations of tachyon dynamics and brane decay are planned.
