EntangleVR: Quantum Architect is an immersive VR game that translates complex quantum mechanics into a spatially experienceable game world, combining real quantum programming with creative spatial design in virtual reality for the first time. Within the approved ProValid project (VAL340/2026), the concept developed in the preceding "Quantum Creativity" project will be advanced into a market-ready prototype.
The goal is not only to convey fundamental quantum effects such as superposition, entanglement, or decoherence, but also to make the understanding and application of real quantum algorithms — including Grover, QAOA, and Shor — playfully accessible. The project, led by Playersjourney GmbH, builds on knowledge-transfer-oriented preliminary work with the Quantum Foundations Research Cluster at Wolfson College, University of Oxford (in particular Prof. Dr. Bob Coecke) and gamelab.berlin at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
At the heart of the game is its spatial level design: functional elements of a quantum computer — qubits, gates, registers, measurement modules — become walkable rooms or floating architectures in three-dimensional space. Players link qubits by physically placing, throwing, or rotating gates; circuits emerge as spatial structures shaped through interaction. Interference patterns, light axes, and pulsating state clouds make invisible quantum effects tangible; rooms branch into multiverses, collapse upon measurement, or synchronize across spatially separated entanglement portals. An optional real-time connection to actual quantum hardware (e.g. IBM Q) enables live execution of selected game sections. A complementary desktop version will be developed to reach a broader audience.
EntangleVR addresses players fascinated by the quantum world as well as institutions of education, training, and professional development. The project contributes to the European Commission's "Quantum Europe" strategy (published July 2025), the upcoming new High-Tech Strategy of the BMFTR, and the United Nations' "International Year of Quantum Science and Technology" — advancing technological sovereignty in the context of the second quantum revolution through entrepreneurial knowledge transfer.
