EthnOA – Open Access in the ethnological disciplines

The project aims to initiate a change of publication culture in the ethnological disciplines and to
establish Golden and Green Open Access as default forms of publication. With the transformation of three important German ethnological journals, the functions and ways of Gold Open Access will exemplarily be implemented as showcases. Gold Open Access is understood here as a free of charge model for the authors, i.e. without so-called processing charges. In the course of the implementation, chances and risks of the OA transformation of the ethnological disciplines will be analyzed and considered. Possibilities and limitations as a functional, exemplary model for the ethnological disciplines will be scientifically reviewed and the foundations for an ethical readjustment of ethnographic work and publishing will be located in the context of the larger development of the Digital Humanities.
Green Open Access is to be pursued via a a broad acquisition of a critical mass of secondary publications in the hope of achieving a clearly visible increasing of openly accessible publications. The results should also stimulate the discourse in the information science-infrastructural OA movement.
