Research-Practice Partnerships and Sustainable Knowledge Transfer: Good-Practice Models from the NYU Metro Center for Inclusion Research

How does a research centre succeed in embedding scientific findings in schools, politics and society in such a way that they are preserved in the long term and are not lost once a funded project comes to an end? This is the question addressed by Hendrik Wiese’s fellowship at New York University’s Metropolitan Centre for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools.

For more than 45 years, the Metro Center has worked with schools and education authorities across New York State and ranks among the leading US institutions for research on educational equity. The fellowship focuses on two questions: How can collaboration between research and practice be organised in a reliable, lasting way? And which structures translate research findings so that schools, policymakers and the wider public can use them directly?

The models developed in New York will be documented systematically and assessed for their transferability to the Centre for Inclusion Research Berlin (ZfIB) and the Berlin University Alliance. The fellowship also strengthens the strategic partnership between Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and New York University.
