Project description

The evolutionary mechanisms of biological speciation are fundamental themes of modern research in evolution and biodiversity. Although the patterns of speciation and ecological mechanisms are well described, much less is known about the genetic foundations of speciation. Using modern DNA-sequencing technologies, a research network with molecular biologists, neuroethologists, bioinformaticians and evolutionary biologists will systematically probe the genomes of three animal groups for functional genes that contribute to speciation.
