Laterality at elite swimmers

At a glance

Project description

Decreasing force difference between right and left arm side by training the weaker side, can lead up to a 2s decrease in swimming time at a 100m distance at crawl swimming! That statement should be tested in an experimental training study.1) Does weight training on a rope pulling ergometer with a higher load application on the weak side lead to a decrease in lateral difference? 2.) Does a decrease in difference of velocity maxima appear in crawl swimming between right to left side? 3.) Does a special weight training lead to an increase in average velocity? 4.) When 1. 3. are true, an optimum in load application difference is needed.A training three times weekly should be completed over an eight weeks period by using a rope pulling ergometer with difference (or without difference) in load application between right and left side by two test groups (n=20). The following tests have to take place: starting test, intermittent test at the 5 week, end test at the 9 week and after 12 weeks an after test. Tests: swimmming diagnostics in a flumies (three thread system) and muscular endurance test at therope pulling ergometer.Gained research results will be presented for coaches in advanced education as well as on congresses, furthermore publishing will take place.
