Littering behavior at bus stops and train stations

The project was realized by the Transport Company Ltd. Frankfurt (VGF). The first phase of the project focuses on the causes of littering at bus stops and train stations and the derivation of measures to counter this behavior (interviews with users of public transport using open questions and differential weighting of these characteristics via standardized questions). The focus of the second phase of the project is the identification and assessment of criteria that determine the subjective opinion of passengers on cleanliness at bus stops and train stations. Therefor, once again standardized and semi-structured interviews with users of public transport are performed.
A validation of these results follows, on the one hand, through an evaluation of these aspects in situations close to reality (pictures) including psychophysiological parameters (skin conductance response, SCR), on the other hand by behavioral observations of litterers in real-life situations and the subsequent questioning of these persons. As a result of these investigations effective measures shall be deduced in order to prevent littering behavior at bus stops and train stations. Finally, one specific measure shall be realized in the field and its effectiveness shall be examined.
