Project description

This project examines the engagement trajectories of works councils with a migration background. The initial hypothesis is that the structures of workplace democracy have a positive effect on processes of political and social integration. The high level of participation of people with a migration background in trade union activities, for example, may also be exogenous, induced by socialisation based on origin, or it may depend on local conditions, such as the organisational culture in the company or the trade unions. The study takes a comparative approach (within sectors, by gender composition, regionally) and collects narrative interview material (biographical interviews), which are supplemented by structured group discussions.
