Modern parameters of iron metabolism in endurance sports

At a glance

Project duration

Project description

Hemoglobin content of retikulocytes displays as a new, stable parameter the acute iron availability for erythropoiesis. A specific cut off for the subpopulation of athletes could identify and used in the treatment of short- or long-term disturbances of erythropoiesis which is based on iron deficiency. The influence of different sport activities, exercise intensity and volume on the diagnostic efficiancy will be investigated in this study. For pre-analytics, the iron status of athletes from different sports (n=30), should be tested at different times in connection with a variety of exercise intensities (regenerative, intensive, extensive). In order to appoint reference values of CHr a iron status analysis (sTFR, CHr) will take place (n=200). Research results should be used in sport medical/clinical laboratories. Results will be published and presented on congresses.
