Project description

The project is developing a community-based, anti-racist basic module on the ‘educational history of Sinti* and Roma* after 1945 in West and East Germany’ for teacher training and civic education. Little to nothing is known about the educational history of Sinti*zze and Rom*nja in both German states after 1945. However, the inclusion or exclusion of survivors and their family members after 1945 represents a significant factor in educational participation in Germany. Knowledge of this helps us today to shift our perspective away from a deficit-oriented approach towards a knowledge-based understanding of educational conditions within the various communities. The module will provide various materials, such as documents, photographs and video-recorded or transcribed and edited interviews with eyewitnesses, tailored for educational purposes, and will develop a framework critical of discrimination.
