New Historical Inequality Research: Knowledge, Discourses, Practices in Western Europe and the World in the 20th/21st Century

The project is devoted to the overarching goal of developing new historical vistas on social inequality in Western Europe and the World during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. It consists of two sub-projects that are inspired by approaches from the history of knowledge and practice theory, amongst others. Sub-project ‘A. Cultures of Inequality’ not only explores the history of knowledge about economic inequality in the Federal Republic of Germany but also seeks to develop comparative and transnational perspectives on the subject. Sub-project ‘B. Body Language and Social Difference’ will explore the cultural history of interpersonal distance and other forms of non-verbal communication from a global perspective.
