Description

Through the concept of situated modelling (SitMod), the summer school will enable modellers and science studies scholars to jointly do research on research “on the fly”. This engagement is designed to bring about an increase in depth in the conjoined fields of hydrology and STS, giving hydrology tools of reflection and methodological experimentation, while granting STS a chance to take seriously other ways of knowing knowledge. We bring together PhD researchers studying modelling with those doing modelling so that both benefit from irritation, experimentation and co-laboration, while neither elevates itself over the other. This will equip the next generation of STS scholars with a broadened and rejuvenated methods base that lives up to the recent call to reconnect STS with the pressing challenges of our time through empirical and conceptual experimentation. The next generation of hydrological modellers, in turn, will be equipped with a reflexive capacity that establishes research on research not as an add-on but as an ongoing activity.
