Project description

The research project aims to develop measures to strengthen quality journalism. The focus is on analyzing international strategies. Copyright, data protection, competition law, and governance-related approaches are examined in terms of their opportunities, risks, and transferability to European contexts. The comparative study of international models (including France, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, and South Africa) serves to identify proven legal foundations and practical applications. In addition, opportunities for EU regulation, for example through collective rights management and licensing, are analyzed. The project is interdisciplinary. The aim is to develop measures that curb the market power of large platforms and ensure democratic media diversity in Europe.
Innovations and perspectives
The project makes an important contribution to the development of a regulatory framework for innovative models in quality journalism, which is of great importance in the context of digital sovereignty. By linking the studies in an interdisciplinary manner, the project ensures that the findings are integrated into proposed solutions.
