HU Institutional Strategy: KOSMOS Dialog 2014 – Christian Ethics and Practical Theology

Modern democracies are based on the souvereignty of the people and on human rights. They insist on secular justifications of the law and the ethical and moral values which form the basis of the legal system. Justice must be justifiable. Legal claims need to be justified. There is no power beyond the discursive constructed system of justification. Any reference on a higher, godlike authority who can’t be part of a discurse, is incompatible with modern democracy. Modern democracy exists via this religious and ideological neutrality.
