Prof. Dr Michael Hoffmann-Becking was awarded the Humboldt-Universitäts-Medaille on 28 November 2025. The medal is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) and its further development. It was presented by the HU President, Prof Dr Julia von Blumenthal, at the annual Founders' Conference.
About the person
Professor Hoffmann-Becking was one of the founders of the Humboldt-Universität Foundation in 2007. As a long-standing member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he shaped its development, strategic direction and its great impact on Humboldt-Universität. Under his leadership, the foundation has promoted and supported the renovation and restoration of listed monuments. Educational projects and innovative science communication have also been promoted and made possible thanks to his commitment to the Foundation, such as the start-up funding of the "HUmanities Lab", a school laboratory.
Mr Hoffmann-Becking was awarded the Humboldt-Universitäts-Medaille for his exceptional services to the development of the Humboldt University Foundation and his outstanding commitment to the promotion of science, education and culture. Mr Hoffmann-Becking has been a partner at the law firm Hengeler Müller in Düsseldorf since 1975, specialising in corporate, stock corporation and group law. He has been an honorary professor at the University of Bonn since 2002.
