Even though the teacher shortage in Berlin is less dramatic this year than in previous years, many schools are still affected by the problem. The Future Campus aims to introduce interested pupils to the teaching profession and show them the path to becoming a teacher – from choosing a subject to study to completing a teaching internship.
Information event for Berlin school pupils
The programme includes presentations on teacher training in Berlin, a panel discussion with teachers about their path to university and their careers, and insights into their everyday working lives. These events are designed to support pupils with a migrant background in particular in their career choices. In workshops, pupils can familiarise themselves with selected subjects such as art, work studies and special education. There will also be an opportunity to visit information stands, talk to teacher training students and lecturers, and get to know Berlin's universities better. The information event is aimed in particular at Berlin school pupils from Year 10 onwards – either as a class with their teacher or individually – as well as parents, counsellors and school social workers.
The Future Campus is an annual information event organised by Berlin's universities that offer teacher training programmes – Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Universität der Künste – in cooperation with the Network for Berlin Teachers with a Migration Background, the Berlin State Institute for Qualification and Quality Development in Schools (BLiQ) and the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family Affairs. The venue rotates and this year is Humboldt-Universität main building, Unter den Linden 6.
