Psychologist Prof. Dr Asifa Majid of the University of Oxford has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Prof. Majid is one of the world’s leading experts in the field of language, cognition and perception. Her pioneering work has fundamentally transformed our understanding of how linguistic and cultural diversity interacts with mental processes. Using a wide range of innovative and interdisciplinary methods – from field research in previously understudied language communities to controlled laboratory experiments – she has made a significant contribution to cognitive science and linguistics.
Prof. Majid was nominated by Prof. Dr Rasha Abdel Rahman from the Department of Psychology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. During her research visit to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the two researchers will jointly investigate how language and culture are linked to multimodal mental representations.

With this award, the Foundation honours internationally outstanding researchers whose work has had a lasting impact on their field and enables them to undertake research stays of up to twelve months in Germany. The prize is endowed with 80,000 euros.
