After 16 years of dedicated work as Humboldt-Universität's full-time Central Women's and Equal Opportunities Officer, Dr Ursula Fuhrich-Grubert is retiring this year.
As part of a farewell ceremony in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, HU President Julia von Blumenthal presented her with the Humboldt-Universitäts-Medaille for her many years of passionate commitment.
About the person
Ursula Fuhrich-Grubert was the full-time Central Women's and Gender Equality Officer at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin from 2009 to 2025. During this time, she significantly shaped the development of the HU in terms of equal opportunities and diversity.
Even before her move to HU, Fuhrich-Grubert was active in various areas of women's and gender equality policy alongside her academic work as a historian at Freie Universität Berlin. Among other things, she worked as deputy central women's representative at the FU and also took on the role of central women's representative at three other Berlin universities: the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Law, the University of Economics and Law and the Hanns Eisler School of Music.
At Humboldt-Universität, she advised the university management and central committees on all issues relating to equal opportunities for women and men. She developed a wide range of instruments, programmes and measures to promote women in all areas of the university. The Caroline von Humboldt Programme, which she designed, with its goals, target groups and measures, still forms a central basis for equal opportunities work at HU today.
In addition, Fuhrich-Grubert founded and headed the Centre for Equal Opportunities, which is dedicated to strengthening diversity and preventing discrimination and disadvantage. She was widely networked - both within the university and with external players in gender equality policy - and thus made a decisive contribution to sustainable and successful gender equality work.
