Open Humboldt
Under the theme ‘Religious knowledge as the key to the present’, HU theologians Felix Körner and Johanna Tannen discuss fundamental questions relating to the major revealed religions. The latest episode explores the relationship between faith and reason.

Why do religions exist – and how do they shape our present? In January 2026, the new podcast “Alles Glauben” was launched at the Central Institute for Catholic Theology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU). In it, Prof. DDr. Felix Körner SJ and Johanna Tannen discuss, together with leading academics, the fundamental questions that arise in Christianity, Islam and Judaism. In the latest episode, they speak with Islamic studies scholar Prof. Dr. Amir Dziri about the relationship between faith and reason.

What is the podcast about?

“Alles Glauben” is a monthly podcast that invites open discussion on Jewish, Christian and Muslim perspectives: on heaven and the lecture hall, scholarship and the search for meaning, everyday life and theology. To kick things off in January, the hosts spoke with Rabbi Daniel Fabian and the Islamic theologian and sociologist Muhammed Mansur Dogan – both staff members at the Central Institute for Catholic Theology at HU – about the concept and significance of religions.

Who is the target audience?

The podcast is aimed at anyone open to broadening their horizons ‘upwards’ and who is curious to discover to what extent knowledge of religions can serve as a key to understanding the present day.

Who are the creators?

The hosts are Prof. DDr. Felix Körner SJ, a Jesuit, Islamic scholar and holder of the Nikolaus Cusanus chair of Theology of Religions at HU, and the theologian Johanna Tannen, a member of staff at the Nikolaus Cusanus chair and a PhD candidate at the University of Münster.

What is the current episode about?

Why does theology still have a place at university today? Is ‘textual fidelity’ synonymous with rigidity? And what distinguishes deep faith from mere stubbornness? The hosts discuss these and other questions in the latest episode, “Science vs. Religion: Who Explains the World Here?”, with Prof. Amir Dziri, Islamic studies scholar and Director of the Swiss Centre for Islam and Society at the University of Fribourg. The episode on the relationship between faith and reason shows that science and religion need not be mutually exclusive. On the contrary: together, both perspectives open up a more comprehensive view of reality. An episode for anyone who wants to question apparent contradictions and gain a deeper understanding.

Who hosts the podcast? Who are the guests?

Felix Körner and Johanna Tannen invite leading academics to discuss the fundamental questions of religion with them – in a scientifically sound and accessible manner – and always with a curiosity about their guests and new perspectives.

What’s next?

The “Alles Glauben” podcast is released on the last Tuesday of every month.
