John Oliver Battle Monghit is a Filipino doctoral researcher in East Asian Studies at Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. He holds a BA in Linguistics from the University of the Philippines Diliman and an MA in Chinese Language and Literature from Hanyang University, South Korea.
Currently, he is a researcher for the DFG (German Research Foundation) and FWF (Austrian Science Fund) funded project, “Early Manila Hokkien (EMHo): Language, Missionary Linguistics and Migration,” which focuses on the digitization and analysis of the 17th-century Chinese-Spanish dictionary Bocabulario de lengua sangleya por las letraz de el ABC
His research interests include language change, contact, and variation, with previous work spanning Tagalog dialectology, grammaticalization, and Sino-Korean phonology.
