Berlin University Alliance

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, together with Freie Universität Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, forms the Berlin University Alliance (BUA). The aim is to jointly promote cutting-edge research and strengthen Berlin as an international centre of science.

Joint research for future-oriented solutions

Across all disciplines, we are working together on the major transformations of our time. As part of the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments, the BUA 2025 has acquired five Clusters of Excellence. They demonstrate the strength of Berlin's research ecosystem: interdisciplinary, networked, forward-looking. Clear goals and priorities also define the integrated research area.

Sharing knowledge with society

Knowledge gains value when it is shared: It broadens perspectives, provides new impetus for research and strengthens social discourse. The Berlin University Alliance sees Knowledge Exchange as a lively dialogue between academia and society - from politics to culture, from business to civil society. It is not about one-sided knowledge transfer, but about professionally organised processes that focus on openness, diversity of perspectives and genuine listening.
