Cluster of Excellence

Clusters of Excellence are large, interdisciplinary research alliances that work on innovative topics at the highest level. Across all disciplines, Humboldt-Universität is working with three other Berlin universities as a network on the major transformations of our time. As part of the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments, the BUA 2025 has acquired five Clusters of Excellence.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has extended the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) funding line for the FAIRmat consortium, which is based at HU. In this phase, FAIRmat is placing greater emphasis on AI for data-driven science.

Researchers at HU have developed a new method for trapping and controlling atoms. This has significantly improved the atoms’ ability to store quantum information – an important step forward for future quantum technologies.
