Prizes for experienced top-level researchers

  • Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation
    This prize is awarded to exceptional scientists and scholars for their outstanding achievements in the field of research.
  • Berlin Research Award
    This prize is awarded to scientists and scholars for work that identified solutions to problems and developed strategies for the future through interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaboration. The research must have been conducted in or by a Berlin university, or must have made a significant contribution to Berlin as a centre for research and business.
  • Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research - Individual Award
    This award aims to provide recognition and publicity for outstanding efforts that enhance the rigor, reliability, robustness, and transparency of research, and stimulate awareness and activities fostering research quality.

 

Prizes for young researchers

  • Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize of the German Research Foundation
    This prize is awarded to young scientists and scholars as a distinction for their outstanding achievements. The young researchers must have completed their PhD.
  • Carl Ramsauer Prize of the Physical Society of Berlin
    This prize is awarded to young researchers for outstanding PhD theses in physics or a related field in the natural sciences that were written at one of the universities in Berlin or at the University of Potsdam.
  • Tiburtius Prize of the State of Berlin
    This prize is awarded to young scientists and scholars for outstanding PhD theses written at one of the universities in Berlin and for outstanding dissertations written at one of the universities of applied sciences in Berlin.
  • Humboldt Prize
    This prize is awarded to students and young researchers at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin for their outstanding academic work.
  • Adlershof Dissertation Award
    This prize is awarded to young researchers for outstanding PhD theses that were written at one of the research institutes based in Adlershof (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and IGAFA – Joint Initiative of Non-University Research Institutes in Adlershof).
  • German Thesis Award
    This prize is awarded to young scientists and scholars for substantial and innovative PhD theses dealing with topics of major societal importance.
  • MTZ Award for Medical Systems Biology
    This prize is awarded to young researchers for outstanding PhD theses in the field of medical systems biology.
  • Berlin Research Award
    This prize is awarded to young scholars and scientists whose innovative research approach makes a positive contribution to an area considered important to Berlin’s future.
  • Research Award of the Association of Berlin Businesspeople and Industrialists (VBKI)
    These prizes are awarded to up to seven young researchers for their PhD and master’s theses, written at universities and universities of applied sciences in Berlin and Brandenburg, that make a particular contribution to promoting academic and economic development in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.
  • Edith Flanigen Award
    Understanding of Metal Oxide / Water Systems at the Molecular Scale.
  • Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research - Early Career Award
    Early career researchers are invited to propose projects that foster research quality and value. Projects will be competitively selected for funding and internationally showcased.

  • Environmental Award of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt
    This prize recognises and rewards achievements that make an exemplary contribution to the protection and preservation of the environment or that will help to reduce the burden on the environment in some major way in the future.
  • Einstein Foundation Award for Promoting Quality in Research - Institutional Award
    This award aims to provide recognition and publicity for outstanding efforts that enhance the rigor, reliability, robustness, and transparency of research, and stimulate awareness and activities fostering research quality. Governmental and non-governmental organizations, institutions, or other entities can apply or be nominated.
