Special features

Students are expected to have Spanish language skills at A2 level under the Common European Framework for Languages. The admission requirement is deemed fulfilled upon successful completion of three consecutive years at lower secondary or two consecutive years in sixth form in the subject of Spanish or upon presentation of equivalent certificates. Recognised certificates for A2 are:

  • Instituto Cervantes: A2 course certificate
  • Adult Education Centres: A2,3 course certificate
  • Spanish Language Schools (CEELE-certified: A2 certificate)

Applicants who speak Spanish as a native language are not required to supply proof.

Knowledge of another modern foreign language or Latin is desirable, and adequate German skills are required.

Spanish Studies is part of the field of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Romance Studies examines Romance languages, literatures and cultures. The subject in question uses example-based teaching methods. It also requires students to look beyond the language being studied to other Romance areas and their languages and literature. The acquisition of foreign language skills is therefore not the focus of the course. If you only wish to perfect your Romance languages, this course on a Romance subject will not meet your objectives.
