New York University (NYU) was founded in 1831 and today has more than 60,000 students. It sees itself as a globally connected research university in the heart of New York City, combining academic excellence with urban diversity and an international outlook. In its self-image, it emphasises openness, a spirit of innovation, and the promotion of social responsibility through interdisciplinary research and teaching.
As an internationally oriented university, NYU operates a worldwide network of Global Academic Centres in addition to its New York campus, including NYU Berlin. In 2025, following 30 years of cooperation, the university leadership agreed on a further strategic partnership.
