Speaking at Tieranatomisches Theater on the Campus Nord, Dr. Muizzu emphasised the existential threat posed to his island nation by climate change and rising sea levels. Together with the event organiser, Circle U. Academic Chair Prof. Dr. Marcel Robischon (Thaer Institute of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences), and Dr. Axel Klie (Geographical Institute), he discussed the role of universities and international partnerships in effective climate protection strategies. He appealed to policymakers and the scientific community to cooperate across national borders, integrate local knowledge and traditional expertise of island communities, and channel research directly into political decision-making. He warned that climate change does not stop at national borders and that international cooperation is therefore essential.
