A ten-day study trip to Shanghai is currently taking place from 15 to 25 March 2026 as part of the China Competence Training Centre (CCTC) at Humboldt University in Berlin, which is funded by the BMFTR. The aim of the trip is to provide direct insights into the dynamic science and innovation landscape of Shanghai and the Yangtze Delta – entirely in line with the CCTC’s objective of preparing decision-makers within the German science system for cooperation with China.
The delegation comprises specialists and senior staff from universities, research institutes and administrative bodies working in the fields of internationalisation, knowledge and technology transfer, and research cooperation. In addition to a nine-member Berlin University Alliance (BUA) delegation, participants include staff from the Fraunhofer Society, the Max Planck Institute, the Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences, and the Federal Foreign Office.
The programme includes visits to Tongji University, various innovation centres in Shanghai and the surrounding area, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the law firm Rödl & Partner. Discussions with representatives from academia and industry will focus on current developments in the Chinese higher education and research landscape, innovation strategies, and the legal and economic framework for international cooperation.
Through the intensive on-site meetings, the varied supporting programme and the numerous networking opportunities, the study trip makes an important contribution to strengthening sustainable, responsible and future-oriented partnerships between Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, its network partners and institutions in China.
The China Competence Training Centre is part of the Regio-China Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space and is based at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
