Employee Self Service (ESS)

Since the changeover of payroll accounting to SAP Payroll in January 2023, remuneration statements have been made available to Humboldt-Universität employees exclusively digitally and, above all, independently in the service portal, the Employee Self Service (ESS).

In addition to salary statements, employees will also be able to manage a lot of their personal data in the ESS via the web browser and retrieve other certificates. In the first stage of expansion, bank details, address and contact data can be updated or added, data on family members can be viewed and GDPR information can be retrieved. Further services are in the works.

How can I log in?

For security reasons, access is via two-factor authentication, similar to online banking. This is required:

  • The HU account that is already used for e-mail or other services (NOTE: Not a student account.)
  • A TAN, a constantly changing number that must be entered each time you log in.

HU account: Mandatory

Staff and student employees who do not have a pure HU account should submit an application immediately via their supervisor.

The application can be downloaded from the website of the Computer and Media Service (CMS).

Two-factor authentication: secure login

Two-factor authentication enables secure login by using a TAN as a second independent factor in addition to the password login.

Employees receive the TAN via freely available apps of their choice, which can be installed on mobile devices. Alternatively, HU provides a small device, the hardware token, which can be used to generate the TAN without a mobile device.

Create VPN access: Enter HU network

The Employee Self Service can only be used within the HU network or alternatively via a VPN connection to the HU network. A VPN client required for VPN connections is provided by the Computer and Media Service.
