“Open Humboldt Freiräume” programme at Zentrum für Kulturtechnik supports researchers at Humboldt-Universität in developing or implementing projects in collaboration with stakeholders from society. The funded projects aim to test innovative and participatory formats of cooperation and dialogue with local communities and non-academic partners. The main focus of the program is exchange that enables practical perspectives to be incorporated into research and new forms of collaboration to be explored.
“Open Humboldt Freiräume” is now open for applications for 2027/28: professors and research staff at Humboldt-Universität can apply with a participatory project by 23 October 2026.
What is funded?
Support is provided through staff funding (Personalmittel). Applicants may apply for (A) teaching substitute for the summer term 2027 or the winter term 2027/28, or (B) funding for a project-based student position for one year.
Who can apply?
Professors, postdocs, research staff with a habilitation and PhD students from all disciplines at Humboldt-Universität can apply; in some cases there are certain requirements: for a teaching buyout, the applicant's position must be funded through the university’s budget (Haushaltsfinanziert).
