How do our conceptions of the past, present and future shape our actions? How do social, political and environmental upheavals alter our understanding of what is worth preserving? And what new possibilities arise when our understanding of cultural heritage changes? In her research, Sharon Macdonald examines the diverse social, political and cultural dimensions of cultural heritage. She focuses on topics such as difficult pasts, controversial collections and the processes of negotiation surrounding cultural heritage. Her work currently focuses on the pluralisation of cultural heritage, concepts of legacy and artistic approaches to research.
