Memory, Identity, Transmission: An Artistic Diorama at the Humboldt Forum

A collaborative workshop at the Humboldt Forum brought together art, therapy, and science. The result was a diorama and an audio piece that bring objects of memory, heritage, and transgenerational narratives to life.

Research

The chair regards curating as a cultural technique for research-based communication. It pursues innovative forms of inter- and transdisciplinary theory and practice at the intersection of art and science, basic research and the challenges of the Third Mission.

In the summer semester of 2026, the public lecture series ‘Family Matters’ (Beziehungsweise Familie) will explore current issues relating to the family – with contributions from academics at Humboldt-Universität and international guests.

Father, mother, child? The exhibition offers surprising perspectives on the traditional family model, both past and present. From 3 October 2025 to 12 July 2026 at the Humboldt Forum.

Study & Teaching

The chair’s courses assigned to the ÜWP programme are aimed at students from a wide range of disciplines and at various levels of study, with a view to providing practical experience of inter- and transdisciplinary exchange.

This encompasses aspects of theory-building (philosophy of science and cultural and media history) as well as an examination of curatorial practices in various academic, cultural and museum contexts.

Dr Alia Rayyan’s Master’s seminar in the summer term of 2026 combined theoretical perspectives from museum and exhibition studies with field research.

During the winter semester of 2025/26, the practical module examined censorship and the public sphere in the context of social media, art and curatorial practice.

Shining a light on experiences of discrimination! Since the summer term of 2025, the FAKE SPACE series of studies and interventions has been exploring how public space can become a forum for open discussion.
