Home Zone: Shared space and artistic engineering

Projektbeschreibung

The aim of the interdisciplinary research project HOME ZONE is to explore artistically and scientifically the typology of home zones in urban contexts, by way of imagining their design not only in terms of engineering and architecture, but also in terms of their aesthetics and visual display and the impact of these on local identities. Equally important to the consideration of how home zones outwardly appear is the question of perception. The projects plans therefore to develop artistic interventions for a defined home zone in a urban area by means of site-specific art, to test them in situ and to research the impact of form/color/size, etc. on perception of space, movement through space and security. The aesthetic reception of these spaces by their users is a core part of the research, because an implementation of contemporary knowledge in urban planning for complex areas, forming non-hierarchical spaces for traffic participation, requires empirical research on (aesthetic) perception – done by a partner university. The project will be closed by a international symposium and forms of publication/distribution of knowledge through conference participation.
