Sharon Macdonald

Sharon Macdonald has been Director of the Zentrum für Kulturtechnik since 2021. Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Social Anthropology, at the Institute of European Ethnology, she is also Founding Co-Director of the Centre for Advanced Study inherit. heritage in transformation. An internationally-recognised expert for her research in the fields of museums, collections and heritage, she has a particular focus on memory politics, difficult heritage and forgetting.  An Honorary Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Aberdeen, and Rsearch Associate of the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford, in 2026, she will hold the Aby Warburg Profesorship in Hamburg. She also has considerable experience of working with museums and other heritage institutions. This includes her current role as Deputy Chair of the Academic Committee of the House of European History in Brussels.
