Excellent creative thinking in Buenos Aires

Study in Berlin and Buenos Aires with the Master’s degree programme “Open Design” / Application deadline: 30 June 2017

Der erste Jahrgang des Masterprogramms Open Design präsentiert ProjekteFigure: Cluster of Excellence „Image Knowledge Gestaltung. An Interdisciplinary Laboratory“

The first class of the Master’s degree programme Open Design recently presented its projects on the subject of growth. The papers show the number of conceptual and creative ways in which this universal, biological and social phenomenon can be approached: from large-scale urban interventions in three cities to an article of clothing that supports and covers the growing stomach of a pregnant woman well at each stage.

During their 4-semester course, the students spent at least half their time in Argentina. They now have a double degree from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) and the Universidad de Buenos Aires.

Applications are welcome for the upcoming winter semester of 2017/18 until 30 June 2017.

Open Design is an interdisciplinary Master’s degree programme open to students of all disciplines with a Bachelor’s degree. The programme focuses on the “design turn”. Students will learn empirical methodologies from the field of cultural studies and humanities, analyse scientific experimentalisation from the natural sciences, and establish creative connections with the design disciplines. This will give rise to an interdisciplinary synthesis.

“When I get hold of tools that help me research beyond all disciplinary boundaries, I can work with my colleagues from other faculties and find solutions to challenges, which I would not have been able to do with the help of my discipline alone,” explains Prof. Wolfgang Schäffner, director of the Master’s degree programme and speaker for the Cluster of Excellence “Image Knowledge Gestaltung. An Interdisciplinary Laboratory.”

Open Design is a programme offered by the Cluster of Excellence “Image Knowledge Gestaltung. An Interdesciplinary Laboratory” at the HU. The Cluster researches complex problems that cannot be solved within the boundaries of a single scientific discipline. The focus here is on the fundamental operative processes of the sciences.
