Successful in Hyderabad

Capacity of the Megacity Project about sustainability extended

The Megacity Project funded by BMBF (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) “Hyderabad as a Megacity of Tomorrow: Climate and Energy in a Complex Transition Process towards Sustainable Hyderabad - Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies by Changing Institutions, Governance Structures, Lifestyles and Consumption Patterns” has been very successful the first year. The project is coordinated by the Division of Resource Economics of Humboldt University.
At the beginning of the project, an international stakeholder workshop was held in Hyderabad during which the participants elaborated a joint vision for a sustainable Hyderabad. The research guided by this vision laid the foundations for the further development of the project.  For representing the project in the local context and providing a communication centre for the participating researchers and stakeholders, a project house was set up in Hyderabad.
From the second year on, the project’s capacity will be extended by a considerable number of scholarship holders in the framework of the DAAD programme (German Academic Exchange Service) “Study and Research Scholarships of Today for the Megacities of Tomorrow”. In total, 26 additional Indian scientists (13 PhD students, 4 Master Students, 3 Postdocs and 6 Senior Scientists) will join the project.
